NBA 2015 - 2016 Predictions 3pt shooting

1. The league will take, make and miss more three’s than ever before.

Duh right?! I’ve been keeping track of this though and I expect the progression to be pretty linear. Exact prediction below in RED. With more bigs shooting 3’s though, we'll see more bricks, and the overall 3pt percentage will drop for the 3rd straight year. At what point will percentage made not be worth the increase of points added from 3’s? I don't know, but at some point it will tip back the other way. Rest assured we have several more years of the league shooting more three pointers.

I’m a big fan of Ben Alamar and his stats team over at ESPN. But good god that guy is not a copywriter. This is Ben/team’s introduction of their awesome new predictive metric FPI for the NFL.

Ranking the Best 3pt Shooters during the 2014-2015 NBA Season

Three pointers are worth more than two pointers. This breath taking realization has been the focus of the NBA for the last few years. Since the 2011-2012 lockout teams are taking and making more three’s at about the same percentage made. The teams that really embrace this ethos and the advanced analytics that support it are taking more 3's, less long 2's and more free throws and apparently cashing in. The Rockets have two superstars but they also have a system. Rocketball has helped propel the team to great regular seasons.

I just listened to Bill Simmons’ new podcast “Bill Don’t Lie” and it’s very good. They are obviously taking a more advanced stats approach on topics which should have r/NBA salivating. Their analysis is great but they of course do some pretty serious speculating, it’s still Bill’s show.

Lots of gurus have their own methodology for creating content online but a new framework isn't needed. I learned the elements of newsworthiness in Journalism class and it translates extremely well to online content. Stick by these simple rules and your content will kick ass, whether it's a tweet a blog post or anything else.

Last March I told you I was joining HealthTalker, an early age startup marketing agency in Somerville, MA as their Social Media Associate. It was a great opportunity; I spent 8 months at the evolving company before a financial situation lead to the elimination of my position. In November I began consulting for City Year founder's Alan Khazei's campaign for the late Ted Kennedy's senate seat. Both experiences were very rewarding; I discovered a lot about applying social media to the Pharma industry and politics.
